Professor Cheikh Sarr

Professor Cheikh Sarr is a Full Professor of the highest rank (Classe exceptionnelle) at the University Iba Der Thiam of Thiès (UIDT, Senegal). A passionate scholar, he is recognized for his work in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and cybersecurity, with a particular focus on applications of AI in healthcare.

He earned an engineering degree in Computer Science (Networks and Telecommunications) from the University of Paris 12 and the National Institute of Applied Sciences (INSA) of Lyon in 2003, followed by a DEA (2004) and a PhD in Computer Science (2007). He later completed a postdoctoral fellowship at the École Normale Supérieure (ENS) of Lyon, focusing on wireless ad hoc communication systems.

Recruited at UIDT in 2007, he rapidly advanced through academic ranks: Assistant Professor (2008), Associate Professor (2012), Full Professor (2016), and Full Professor of the highest rank (Classe exceptionnelle) in 2020. With over twenty years of academic experience, he has taught in several countries (France, Senegal, Chad, Togo, Burkina Faso), supervised numerous doctoral theses and nearly fifty master’s dissertations.

In addition to his teaching and research activities, he has held several leadership roles, including Head of Department, Dean of Faculty, Director of the Quality Assurance Unit, and, since 2023, Vice-Rector in charge of Studies, Pedagogical Innovation, and University Life.

An expert evaluator for ANAQ-Sup, CAMES, and the African Union, Professor Sarr is a laureate of the international Next Einstein Forum Award (2020) and a recipient of an AUF Excellence Fellowship. He is the author of more than fifty international scientific publications.
