Tegbar Yigzaw Sendekie

Tegbar Yigzaw Sendekie is an Ethiopian physician with a doctorate in public health (PhD) and a certificate in international fellowship in health professions education. He brings forth deep expertise and two decades of experience in implementing and leading donor-funded health workforce development projects.

 

He contributed to the development of a national HRH strategic plan, scale-up of health professionals’ education, competency-based curricular reform, faculty development (in Ethiopia, Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire and Liberia), establishment of education program accreditation, CPD, and national licensing exam systems, strengthening of HRH management capacity, and HRH research and information system. Currently, he is the chief of party for the USAID-funded MCGL Project in Jhpiego Rwanda.

 

Prior to joining Jhpiego, he was an assistant professor of public health and head of the School of Public Health at the University of Gondar, Ethiopia. Between February 2020 and February 2025, he served as the President of the Ethiopian Medical Association.

 

He is also a member of the advisory group for the Quality Committee of the WHO Academy.
