Dr. Julius Boniface Okuni is an Associate Professor of Veterinary Pathobiology in Makerere University. He has worked extensively on infectious disease diagnosis, especially Paratuberculosis, African swine fever and others, and collaborated on One Health multi-institutional projects such as ADAPT One Health AMR project, the Africa Suitcase Lab project on COVID19, the MOBILE TB project, the PREPARE-TID project, as well as the Molecular Evolution of M. paratuberculosis project. A key aspect of these collaborations is the use of a mobile suitcase laboratory equipped with thermostable reagents and battery-operated laboratory equipment for field-ready use on diagnosis of infectious disease by a multidisciplinary team. He has taught on various courses in Pathology and Infectious disease diagnosis on Masters program including Master of Veterinary Medicine, Infectious disease Management (IDM), Food, Animal Health, and Laboratory Science Management, as well as undergraduate programs like Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine, Bachelor of Biomedical Lab Technology, and Bachelor of Animal Production. He has also supervised and examined theses of students of different backgrounds. As a pathologist, my desire is to continue to apply my skills of diagnosis and research in infectious diseases of animals to build collaborations in One Health Emergency disease diagnostic capacity. I have attended three international fellowships in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece; Michigan State University (USA); and Iowa State University (USA). I am an active Diagnostician with expertise in food animal diseases, wildlife diseases and One Health.
