Prof. Gabriel Kabanda

Professor Gabriel Kabanda is a Most Notable and Top Distinguished Full Professor of Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, and Machine Learning, currently serving as Senior Professor and Head of the Department of Business Analytics and AI/Robotics at the School of Business, Woxsen University, in Hyderabad, India. A visionary scholar and institution-builder with over 38 years of uninterrupted experience spanning academia, strategic leadership, and international consultancy, he is distinguished for integrating Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Big Data Science, and Information Systems with transformative higher-education governance across Africa, the United States, and India. Professor Kabanda holds a D.Sc. in Computer Science (AI/Cybersecurity) from Atlantic International University, USA (2021), a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Pacific Western University, California (1996), an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Swansea University, UK (1992, awarded under a WMO Scholarship), and a B.Sc. in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Zimbabwe (1987). Over his career he has held senior leadership positions including Head of Doctoral Programmes and Full Professor at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, Pro Vice-Chancellor for Research, Innovation and Enterprise Development at the Zimbabwe Open University, and Professor of Applied Business Informatics at the University of Zimbabwe Business School, alongside adjunct professorships at institutions in the USA and India and executive roles in industry. A prolific researcher, he has authored more than 139 refereed international journal articles, 11 books and modules, and 8 edited volumes, and has supervised over 20 PhD candidates, with primary research spanning AI and Machine Learning, Cybersecurity and Blockchain, Big Data Analytics, ICT for Development, Digital Transformation, and SDG-aligned technology frameworks. His many honours include a UNESCO-Endorsed Fellowship Award, an International Lifetime Achievement Award in Education from the London School of Digital Business (2025), and an Innovation Award in AI/ML and Big Data Analytics conferred by the President of Zimbabwe (2024). He is a Fellow of the African Scientific Institute (FASI), a Fellow and Vice President of the Zimbabwe Academy of Sciences (FZAS), a member of the IFIP Technical Committee on Artificial Intelligence, and a member of the African Union Scientific Research and Innovation Council (ASRIC). Bridging Zimbabwe, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the global academic community, Professor Kabanda remains an exemplar of interdisciplinary impact, advancing sustainability, epistemic equity, and the democratisation of knowledge across nearly four decades of scholarly practice.
