Prof. Patricia Katowa-Mukwato

Prof Patricia Katowa-Mukwato is an Associate Professor of Nursing.  She holds a Bachelor and Master of Science in Nursing, a PhD in Medical Education from the University of Zambia and a Post Doctorate.  Currently serving as Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic Affairs at Mulungushi University-Zambia. She is also a fellow of the James Hakim Leadership Development Programme. In academia, she has more than 12 years of higher education administration and 10 years of clinical practice. She served as Dean for the School of Nursing Sciences and Assistant Dean for the School of Nursing and, the School of Medicine at the University of Zambia. She also served as Chairperson for the University of Zambia School of Medicine Undergraduate Research Ethics Committee in addition to chairing strategic university committees. Her experience spans from developing and implementing specialized academic programmes, establishing a simulation laboratory to setting a satellite campus. She has worn a number of grants funded by NORAD, the National Institute of Health (US), European Union and the Finnish Government, most of which are for capacity building for educational programmes for junior staff to pursue Masters, Doctoral and Post-Doctoral studies, teacher/student exchange and evidence-based practice.  

She has Published more than 70 peer-reviewed papers in the areas of evidence-based practice in nursing, health professions education and coping with chronic illness, with over 700 citations and some of her papers have impacted teaching and learning in her field. 

As a Professional nurse, she has held positions including being Chairperson for the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia Board, Co-lead for the AFREhealth Southern Africa Chapter and Chairperson for the Research Faculty for East Central and Southern Africa College of Nursing and Midwifery (ECSACONM). She is very passionate about promoting teaching/learning, research, professionalism and ethical practice, and mentorship, for transforming novices to competent individuals.
